What's this all about, anyway?

You've been working away at a manuscript, essay, article, blog post, grocery list, and you just can't look at the screen or paper any longer.
Whether you need another pair of eyes on your work, a run-down on how to get yourself out there, plan your book launch, or anything in between,
I'm your gal.
Editing
We're all married to our work, but sometimes you need to let go.

DEVELOPMENTAL/CONTENT EDITING
On a macro level of editing, I will:
  • Start by talking about bigger-picture thinking, working closely with you to establish goals for your work and focus on target audiences
  • Refine overall structure and organize content
  • Provide line-by-line editing to improve clarity and narrative flow
  • Help develop better descriptions, characterizations, plots, and thematic elements, fleshing out ideas, concepts, and storylines
  • Assess weak plot points, focus narrative, and reduce redundancies

LINE EDITING
On a micro level of editing, I will:
  • Provide an in-depth critique at the sentence and paragraph level
  • Focus on word-choice issues, redundancies, flow problems, cliches

COPY EDITING
On a micro level of editing, I will:
  • Double check for story consistency, flow, continuity, and clarity
Copy edit for grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and overlooked inconsistencies, fixing awkward phrasing and repetitions
  • Keep your work free of typos
  • Copyright and fair use, fact-checking, citations, and references

Working one-on-one together, you'll become a better writer without losing your voice.
Proofreading
It's easy to miss the little things after you've reread your work 400 times.

In the final read, I will:
  • Carefully make sure everything is consistent with style (AP, Chicago Manual, MLA, or your own)
  • Keep your work free of typos, with correct punctuation, spelling, grammar, style, and spacing
  • Double check for errors post-formatting, including line breaks, chapter titles, page numbers, spacing, widows/orphans, loose lines with gaps, etc.

Don't worry, you'll keep complete creative control—I'll just give it that final polish and shine before you go to print.
Marketing/Design
The necessary, un-fun stuff that will get you noticed.

For your web presence, I will:
  • Build and design a killer website and show you how to easily navigate it, or improve and offer tips to make your existing website stand out
  • Develop a blog (or improve your current one), offer successful blog-writing techniques, and ghostwrite
  • Help you understand the importance and proper use of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and Goodreads
  • Start a newsletter and create a MailChimp account for email campaigns and blog posts with insight into subscribers

For getting your book noticed, I will:
  • Design a One-Sheet and Author Media Kit
  • Connect you with a top PR professional/consultant and Marketing Analyst
  • Design book merchandise (bookmarks, magnets, stickers, etc.)
To help build your brand, I have:
  • A team of award-winning designers who will create your personal branding with a look, tone, and feel (logo, colors, fonts, images, posters, photography, business cards)

You can do it all, some, or none. I'll pick up the rest.
Assisting
Every task matters—even the little ones.

As your assistant, I will:
  • Do the busy work
  • Communicate with formatters, publishers, and the freelancers
  • Oversee the uploading process of digital files to self-publishing websites (including Amazon's KDP and IngramSpark/Ingram Wholesaler)
  • Plan and run your book launch
  • Organize spreadsheets, update your website, reach out to reviewers
  • Handle any unforeseen duties that inevitably arise when trying to publish a book
  • Fulfill all your marketing needs (above)

Call me strange, but this is my favorite part of the job.
